Festa Juninha!

Last Friday and Saturday Jones and I were able to go to two Festa Juninhas.
Festa Juninha (translated "Little June Party") celebrates São João. Don't ask me for any more details on the history of it. It seems that it's somewhat of a harvest festival since all of the food is made with corn. My favorite corn treats are canjica, bolo de milho, and pamonha.
The wards and stakes usually put the activity together allowing the members to come dressed up in traditional outfits. The girls usually paint freckles on their faces and the boys paint whiskers or a goatee. There is also a quadrilha, or square dance.
I spent most of the time taking pictures of the costumes and children. You can see a slideshow at My Webpage.
